She was born Hariklia Roupaka in Thebes, Greece. Her father died when she was 7, so her mother took her and her brother and moved to Athens a year later. She is of Arvanite origin on her fathers side and of Anatolian Greek origin on her mothers side. Her grandmother's family migrated to Thebes in 1924 from Seydiköy, İzmir. Her first husband was Achilleas Theophilouk, with whom she adopted a son, Mano, named after her friend and colleague, Manos Loizos. Her brother George Sarris was also a singer.

She has sung with and appeared alongside Melina Mercouri and Lakis Lazopoulos, and costarred with Christopher Papakaliatis in the 2022 TV series Maestro
