Motorsport engineer and team manager who held the position of team principal of the Haas Formula One Team beginning in 2014. He has also held the role of managing director for Jaguar Racing and the technical operations director for Red Bull Racing. He began his career as a mechanic in the World Rally Championship for Mazda Rally Team Europe after dropping out of college, where he was studying engineering. He went on to work as the assistant team manager for Top Run Motorsport and the technical manager for Jolly Club.
As the Haas team principal, he led the team in the 2016 season to become the first American entry to score in their debut race at the Australian Grand Prix.
He is married to wife Gertraud Steiner, with whom he has 1 daughter.
