Portuguese Architect who received the Gold Medal of the City of Porto and the Comenda da Ordem Militar de Santiago e Espada.
He graduated from the University of Porto School of Fine Arts in 1952. His work would be exhibited at such organizations as the Smithsonian Institution, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and the Venice Biennial.
He taught architecture at the University of Coimbra and at the University of Porto.
He was the sixth of seven children born to José Ferrão de Tavares e Távora and his wife, Maria José Lobo de Sousa Machado Cardoso de Meneses. His mother bequeathed the House of Covilhã to him.
He and Frank Lloyd Wright were fellow Architects.
