He first showed an affinity for the piano when he was three, giving his first recital at five.
He was one of the youngest pupils ever at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, enrolling at age 13.
His family invested much into his career, including relocating to Germany in order to boost the quality of his studies.
He often performed in the home of the Abegg family in Germany alongside Vladimir Horowitz.
