Known by the stage name Emmy the Great, she is a singer and songwriter known for her albums First Love, Virtue, and Second Love. She has also released several EPs, including the debut self release Take Me I'm Free.
Interested in music from an early age, she would travel by train to her nearest Tower Records shop to buy the only non-Chinese music they had, developing a love for Weezer and The Smashing Pumpkins, amongst others.
She has dabbled in writing, her music articles appearing in publications like The Guardian and The Stool Pigeon.
Her father is English and her mother is Chinese. Her family left Hong Kong when she was twelve after Hong Kong was no longer a British colony. During the production of her second album, Virtue, her atheist fiancee underwent a spiritual awakening and left her as a result.
As a member of the project The Brighton Port Authority, she performed alongside Norman Cook.
