His first inspiration was pro skateboarder Mark Gonzales, who lived in the area where he grew up. Ed Templeton went on to turn pro in 1990. He subsequently attempted to found his own companies, TV and Television, but both failed. In 1994, he tried again, founding the company, Toy Machine. Toy Machine makes and sells skateboards and skating related products, including clothing, hardware, and videos. The brand also has its own skate team. Current members include Billy Marks, Leo Romero, and Blake Carpenter. Ed Templeton is also an accomplished artist, designer, and photographer, and as of 2013, is the primary producer of skateboard art for his company. His artwork has also been featured in various exhibitions.
