Trinidadian singer credited with popularizing "chutney soca" music, a term which she also coined. She is best remembered for her hit 1988 song "(Roll Up the Tassa) Mr. Bissessar".
She studied classical Indian music under the famous Professor Adesh.
She is widely credited with being the first East Indian woman to sing in the soca style, which raised much controversy among conservative Indian citizens.
She and her mother began singing together at temples when she was a little girl.
She scored a major hit with "Real Unity", which featured fellow soca singer Machel Montano.
