Richard Craig Schofield played shortstop for 14 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1983-96. He won a World Series in 1993 while playing with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Coming out of high school in 1981, Schofield was the third overall pick in the MLB amateur draft.

Back in 1986, Schofield was playing for the then-California Angels. The Angels trailed the Detroit Tigers 12-5 going into the bottom of the ninth. They'd rallied, though, closing the gap to 12-9 when Schofield came up to bat with two outs and the bases loaded. He then smacked a two-strike grand-slam to give the Angels an improbable 13-12 victory. Angels fans consider the greatest comeback in the team's history.

His father, John Richard "Ducky" Schofield played infield for 19 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1953-71, winning the World Series in 1960 while with the Pittsburgh Pirates. And his grandfather, also John "Ducky" Schofield, played 11 seasons of minor league baseball and made it to Double-A with Kansas City before going into farming.

His nephew is former MLB outfielder Jayson Werth
