American television personality who hosted the first network game show, Cash and Carry. He also held the first telethon and starred in the first commercial.
He started out on the radio and then went into TV. Idiosyncratically he would call his audience Mother.
He worked as an announcer of the quiz show Judge for Yourself, and was a host on Name That Tune.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and died in Palm Springs of lung cancer.
He often filled in for Monty Hall on Let's Make a Deal.
