Best known for having won the reality competition series Survivor: Philippines. Her victory came during the show's 25th season in 2012.
Prior to her Survivor casting, she practiced sexual therapy full-time in her home state of Iowa. She had been the only American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists licensed therapist in the state at the time.
She became the oldest Survivor winner in the history of the show to that point at age 41. In 2015, the host of the show, Jeff Probst, named her as one of his top 10 favorite winners ever.
She and her Engineer husband, Brad, are parents to one daughter.
She competed against Lisa Whelchel during her time on Survivor: Philippines.
