Daya is an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began learning to play instruments such as piano, guitar, ukulele, saxophone, and flute at the age of 3 and by 10 had mastered them. She joined the Accelerando Music Conservatory in Pittsburgh at 11 to hone her singing skills. After releasing her first EP, 'Daya', in 2015, her single "Hide Away" reached the 23rd spot on the Billboard Hot 100. She then relocated to Los Angeles and went on a countrywide music tour, performing as a supporting act for Jack & Jack. In February 2017, she won a Grammy Award for the soundtrack "Don't Let Me Down".

On December 6, 2016, it was announced that "Don't Let Me Down" had been nominated for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards . On February 12, 2017, it won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording making it the singer's first Grammy Award win.

On October 11, 2017, Daya released a new single, titled "New", through Interscope Records.
