American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church who was the Archbishop of Miami from 1958 until his death in 1977.
He studied theology at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe.
He became the first Archbishop of Miami after the Diocese was elevated by Pope Paul VI.
His father was an Irish immigrant who worked as a railroad brakeman.
