She earned tuition money by singing commercial jingles and back-up vocals. Her photograph was sent to Johnnie To, who cast her in the now classic A Moment of Romance (1990), launching her into stardom across Asia. She has since appeared in many films, including The Returning, Eat Drink Man Woman, Beyond Hypothermia, Intruder, and Eighteen Springs, for which she was nominated for a HKFA Best Actress Award and won the Hong Kong Critics Society Best Actress Award. She has also worked in China, Singapore, and Korea.
