South African Olympic swimmer who has represented his country in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympic games. He won the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke in 2012 and multiple World Championship medals outside the Olympic games.
He made his competitive swimming debut in 2007.
Besides his swimming career, he is also a successful hedge fund analyst. In April 2009, he set an African record at the 50-meter breaststroke at 27.06 seconds.
He married his wife Nefeli in July 2018. They have one son together.
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he began a competitive rivalry with fellow swimmer Adam Peaty.
