Arne Wilhelmsen, born in 1929 in Oslo, Norway, is the founder of Royal Caribbean Cruises, one of the largest cruise ship companies in the world. Wilhelmsen pioneered many innovations in the industry, and his son Alex took his place on the board of directors in 2003. Wilhelmsen made a large fortune when China Oilfield Services acquired Awilco Offshore, in which he had a 40% stake, for $2.5 billion in 2008. He and his family also own one of Norway's biggest property developers, Linstow.
