Andy is the brother of actor and comedian David Spade. He started out in advertising for brands like Lexus, Coca-Cola, and Paul Stuart. He created his own advertising firm in Arizona that initially traded work for free food at restauratns. He met his future wife Kate in college and eventually moved to New York where she was working for a fashion magazine. Andy and his wife Kate Spade founded Kate Spade New York and Jack Spade in 1993.
Andy encouraged Kate to launch the business despite that fact that she had no experience in physically creating a retail product. They sold 56% of the brand to Neiman Marcus in 1999 and then sold the remaining share to the same company in 2006. Andy founded Partners & Spade in 2008 and launched the loungewear collection Sleepy Jones in 2013. Spade has also produced feature films with Red Bucket Films and published books through HarperCollins. In 2009 Spade was named one of 100 creative business people by Fast Company.
