Kidnapped girl who become the namesake for the AMBER Alert system following her 1996 abduction and unsolved murder. Her name was made into an backronym; America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response system.
She was abducted while riding her bike in Arlington, Texas. A neighbor witnessed the act and called the police. However, tragically her body was later discovered abandoned in a storm drain ditch.
Following the discovery of her death, her parents established the organization People Against Sex Offenders to lobby for better laws protecting children.
Her parents were Richard Hagerman and Donna Whitson. She had a brother named Ricky.
Both she and JonBenet Ramsey were young girls whose murders remain unsolved.
