American neurosurgeon who broke a barrier in 1981 by becoming the first African-American woman to specialize in neurosurgery.
She was not even considered an adult in 1967 when she was nominated for the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
She's an accomplished all around individual, winning the American Medical Women’s Association President’s Award in 1993, the Distinguished Service Award from Wayne State University Medical School in 1994, and became a 1989 inductee into the Michigan Woman's Hall of Fame.
She is an important female Doctor just as Elizabeth Blackwell was.
