Former midfielder who came to be known as one of the greatest Ecuadorian soccer players of all time, winning seven league titles with the Mexican club Necaxa, with whom he played from 1989 to 2003. Internationally, he earned 109 caps with Ecuador and played in seven Copa Américas.
He was born in Ibarra, Ecuador and became a star while playing in the youth ranks with Deportivo Quito.
In 2002, he assisted Iván Kaviedes in scoring the goal that would send Ecuador to its first-ever FIFA World Cup.
His daughter is actress Cristiane Aguinaga.
He was teammates with midfielder Edison Mendez at the 2001 and 2004 Copa Américas.
