French Abstract and Cubist Painter and art theorist whose best-known works include La Chasse (The Hunt), Composition pour Jazz (Composition for Jazz), and Paysage Cubiste (Cubist Landscape).
Before beginning his artistic career, he served in the French Army. At the age of twenty-one, he exhibited a painting at the prestigious Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
Born in Paris, he was the son of a textile designer and the nephew of a portrait Artist.
He considered himself the founder of Cubism, an artistic movement exemplified by the work of Pablo Picasso.
